Kelly pattern give-away winner and some knitting loveliness

Just a very brief post to share a couple of things with you...

Firstly - the winner of my copy of the Megan Nielsen Kelly skirt. In a nail biting finish, with 6 contestants, my random number generator (ie husbo) chose the magic number 4.... so the winner was Jana!

Jana please let me know your email address and I will be in touch - hopefully you can master those troublesome buttonholes!

BTW - I tried a different random number generator first, but decided on a redraw after realising it perhaps wasn't as random as I'd hoped:

And until I can post my next, rather crazy project with you I wanted to share some images that dazzled me this morning over my coffee and resulted in an impulse purchase of the Spring 14 knit.wear magazine available from the Interweave store here.

Oh my giddy aunt. Is that not the most beautiful top? I'm not sure if the diamond stitch pattern is a bit beyond my skills at this point, but this top is absolutely in my future. This mag has a few gorgeous, modern patterns, mostly in the funnel neck feature. All the designs can be viewed on Ravelry here (which is where the following pics come from). Here is a selection of my favourites:

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Jana? That would be me! Wheeeee, I’m so delighted! (:
(Well, not _that_ delighted that I’ll really have to practise my buttonholes now, but … it’s something I need to do anyway. You are right that it is terribly limiting not to be confident about making them. Sigh.)
My e-mail address is on the about page of my blog, but for your convenience: It’s plok [at] plokta [dot] org.
That top on the cover of the knit.wear magazine is awesome! I can’t really knit, I only know the very basics and my wrists/forearms don’t like it—but if I could, I would totally make this too! I’ll have to think about sewing something similar.

    1. I'm so glad you're pleased! You know that's a great idea for a non-knitter - I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to draft something like that top and make it in a heavy knit fabric.....

    2. You’re right, it would probably not be hard to draft something like it. However … It would be even easier to use a similar pattern that already exists! I was thinking of the Tamanegi-kobo Wilma: http://tmngkobo.onlinestores.jp/for-Knit-Fabrics-c-326/Wilma--Long-sleeve-pullover-with-thumbholes-p-8809.html
The red and black version looks like it has a pretty similar silhouette. Might have to lengthen the collar and shorten the sleeves a bit, and make sure to use a fabric that’s stable enough for the collar to stand up.
If only I didn’t have five million projects on my “makes wish list” yet!…

    3. Oh that's just FAB! I've never seen those patterns before. Am about to disappear down the rabbit hole again - thanks Jana!

  2. Glorious designs, all! You know, this is just a guess but stitch patterns like that diamond one are often just knit and purl combinations. Given that gorgeous top you knitted last year, I'm sure you'd have absolutely no trouble with this one!

    1. You know I never looked that closely but you are right - they look a bit like pleated knit track suit pants!
